I can't decide if I loved this or thought it was a big cluster of sadness. This review might seem like a spoiler so maybe don't read it ...

Eve is sad. She is distraught. She is a mess. She is well ... At times, kind of annoying. She can't seem to get it together. At all.

She finally seeks out help after her crazy "sick" Mother is in the hospital again.

She falls for her therapist.

I don't know ... Here is where I was like "huh". What in all of NYC she has never seen a gorgeous man in a suit! Ha. It seemed a little ... Far off. Because basically - she was projecting her need to have a man care for her, onto him.

They have sex. They part ways. They come back together. They part. They go away. They part. Eve freaks out again after discovery WHY she has these crazy nightmares.

They come together, more sex.

Then Eve finally becomes a grown up and walks away to seek help. SHOCKER therapy with a woman helps.

They find each other again. They admit they are still in love. They have a HEA.

trans·fer·ence a novel edition by Ava Harrison Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Ava Harrison sure knows how to write a great book. The forbidden romance of Eve and Preston didn't start off with a bang (get your minds out of the gutter), but built up into a love that I think we all want in our own lives. Beautifully written, 5 stars
Eve, the heroine, lives up to what that name provokes in this story, forbidden. Eve is forbidden to her therapist, Preston (the hero) and feels abandoned by the people who she loves and loved. Eve's story takes you on a roller coaster of emotions and mental break downs and the only one she feels comfortable with and whom she feels can save her is Preston. But Dr. Preston Montgomery comes with his own baggage and feels that both he and Eve are using transference to help them heal. This was a good read, with a little bit of mental health, a bit of drama from secrets being kept amongst friend and family and some romance that's all wrapped up for an interesting read!
This was truly a book about forgiveness and epic love. I was hooked from the start. I know transference is real but from the minute she saw him and didn't know who he was, that terminology was not the truth by any means. Maybe on Preston's part a little bit her feeling were already set. This book was so well-written and realistic. Great Read!
Halfway through I was discouraged that I still didn't care about the main characters. The plot directions and some dialogue seem so "soap-opera-ish" and also reminiscent of Twilight-type drama. Kinda over that whole "I love you and we should be together but we just CAN'T!" melodrama.
I went into this book excited about the storyline. Everything from the cover to the blurb was exactly what I was looking for. Sadly it was the only thing that was right about this book. The beginning started off slow and remained slow throughout the entirety of the book. I tried to connect with the characters but unfortunately was unable to. The chemistry between the hero and the heroine simply did not exist for me. The one positive that I can give about this book is that the writing was well done. I wished I could have loved it, I wanted to, but sadly it just was a no-go for me.
This book is the first I've read by this author and it will not be the last. I was intrigued at first because of the cover of book two in this series. I wanted to start at the beginning. OMG what a beginning. For me this is a tough subject matter. It was handled by someone who had done a lot of research. I absolutely loved that this young woman had a friend in this story. Even though she seemed fragile at times I found she has a lot of grit to keep moving one foot in front of the other. I loved Preston. He was in such a painful position. Many difficult decisions would need to be made for both of these folks to find the way into the light. At the end they might not both emerge together. This is the essence of this masterful read to me. I just love it! I can't wait to read the next story with his brother!!! Thank you for making this book available in paperback for those of us who just love the feel of a great read! denise bailey
Sigh... Doc Mr Dreamy... what can I say... I just loved him!! He is soooooo damn swoon worthy it will make you fall head over heels in love with him!! The struggle between right and wrong, do you follow your heart or your mind. That is the Preston Montgomery will find himself debating. The minute he sees Eve, he is captivated by her. But being her therapist he’s crossing so many lines he may risk losing his license. He feel’s like fate is giving him a second chance at love. But is the risk worth the reward?

Ever since Eve’s mentor died, she’s been plagued with panic attacks and nightmares. A serious blackout causes her to be in a car accident and in the hospital. Her life feels like its being sucked down a black hole except for a pair of beautiful blue eyes that save her. She resists the feeling that makes her feel safe. She knows falling for her therapist is not right but there is just something about him that she cannot let go of.

There is so much more to trans*fer*ence that just a love story. Stories involving mental illnesses always hit close to home for me as my mother committed suicide. Reading these types of novels always helps me look at the other side of her illness. What it must have felt like to live in darkness and Ms Harrison did just that. I could feel Eve’s pain and struggles. Her panic attacks where heartbreaking and I felt like I was right there with her feeling what she was feeling. Trans*fer*ence is one not to miss and one I would highly recommend!
