Das Jesus Video Andreas Eschbach 9783404142941 Books
Finally, Andreas Eschbach's best novel has been released in eBook form (probably, certainly, because its sequel - 'der Jesus-Deal' - is being released later in the year).I've read it perhaps 4 times over the years, and enjoyed it as much the last time as I did the first time.
Included is a sample from 'der Jesus-Video', which I have on pre-order (I don't expect it to be as good though, but hope to be surprised).
Inexplicably, 'das Jesus-Video' hasn't been translated into English.

Das Jesus Video Andreas Eschbach 9783404142941 Books Reviews
I have read this book when I was about to finnish my finals, I thought I am going to fail them because I simply couldn't stop read this book even for a slight second.
highly recommended!
The story of this book is very intriguing. Over the course of the book a video that shows the living Jesus is found and in the end some parts revealed. But the important part is not so much just what the video shows but how it will affect each of us.
The book is well written and the tension does not lessen over the whole book.
I do not want to reveal to much but this book is well worth to read and you should take the time to consider how it would affect you if it all was real.
What if ...?

This was one of the better thrillers I have read in quite some time. Although there are a few holes, the book was well-written and well thought out. What I liked about this particular book is that the author didn't leave you hanging - at least not entirely. The plot centered around a search for a video camera and cassette tape that were supposedly used to film Christ 2,000 years ago. During most of the book you aren't sure whether the whole thing is a huge hoax or whether it really happened. During several of the chapters the reader is left thinking that Christ never existed at all. As has been said in other reviews, the camera and video are eventually found and that is where many thriller authors would have left things, principally because of the complications involved in continuing the plot from that point. However, this author actually takes the plot several steps further and clears up a lot of loose ends. The book pictures the role of the Catholic Church in all of this in a very negative way. Many soul-searching questions and points are taken up as the book goes along. I thought the plot was intriguing and thought provoking. I would recommend this book to anyone. Sadly, I think it is only available in German. The author ought to get it translated into English so it can be put on the English-speaking market.
I got the and Audible editions of this book for some light reading and listening when I had to get my German back in shape for an exam. I wasn't expecting it to become one of my favorite books.
The book starts off with an archaeological dig in Israel, where a body is found from about 2,000 years ago. The body has a bundle on his chest that contains the user's manual to a video camera, preserved in its original plastic bag.
To be honest, the writing has some drawbacks. One is the bad guy, a big media executive, who is frankly portrayed more as a cartoon character than a person. I found the shallow stereotypes and lack of characterization of John Kaun to be the weakest point in the book, and it really turned me off in the earlier chapters. I almost quit the book, but figured I had paid for it so would see it through to the end. I'm glad I did.
The portrayal of the bad guys from the Catholic Church is also shallow and stereotypical - the second biggest flaw in the book.
But the author overcomes these weaknesses with one of the most creative time travel stories I have ever come across. It's a ton of fun and there are plenty of twists, turns, suspense and even action. There is some unconventional storytelling too, because there is a clear ending to the story, and then it just keeps going despite the ending for quite a while yet. When it finally really does end, the end is actually remarkably satisfying.
I just listened to the Audible version a second time. Fantastic reading by Matthias Koeberling. I also got the sequel, Der Jesus-Deal. A very different book, but also great.
Heartily recommended for any folks who enjoy sci-fi, adventure or even early Christianity. Unfortunately it looks like this has not been translated into English, so for now I guess it's for German speakers only.
Could not put it down, very compelling
It's a nice read and easy. I watched the movie became curious about the book. I'm not dissapointed. Than"s a lot
Ein Buch das mich nicht losließ. Eine SciFi Story der besonderen Art.
Und ich muss jetzt unbedingt die "Fortsetzung" lesen.
